A Novel Bandwidth-Efficient Multicasting Protocol for Wide Area Networks

چکیده
In this paper we have proposed a practical approach for multicasting in wide area networks. It is a modification of the classical RPF approach. Though our approach is a modification of the RPF, it retains all the advantages of the RPF method and has an additional important advantage of efficient utilization of bandwidth by reducing the number of duplicate packets generated when compared to RPF. We have shown that the proposed approach offers better utilization of network bandwidth and router’s memory when compared to the well known Distance Vector Multicast Routing Protocol.

The purpose of this research work is to improve the performance of Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANET) by reducing the number of in-network message transactions, and there by efficiently utilizing the bandwidth during an emergency situation. Bandwidth Efficient Acknowledgement based Multicasting protocol (BEAM) is proposed instead of the existing broadcasting protocol such as Acknowledged Broadca...
متن کاملBandwidth Management Framework for Multicasting in Wireless Mesh Networks
Wireless mesh networks (WMNs) provide a reliable and a scalable solution for multicasting. This paper proposes a framework called Multicast Framework for Bandwidth management in WMN (MFBW) which combines the advantages of Shortest Path Tree (SPT) and Minimum Cost Tree (MCT) algorithm for efficient multicasting with optimal use of
متن کاملMulticasting Sustained CBR and VBR Traffic in Wireless Ad-Hoc Networks
Wireless ad-hoc networks consist of mobile nodes forming a dynamically changing topology without any infrastructure. Multicasting in a wireless ad-hoc network is difficult and challenging. In this paper we propose a novel protocol, Wireless Ad-hoc Real-Time Multicasting (WARM), for multicasting real-time (CBR and VBR) data among nodes in a wireless ad-hoc network. The protocol is distributed, h...
متن کاملA TESLA-based mutual authentication protocol for GSM networks
The widespread use of wireless cellular networks has made security an ever increasing concern. GSM is the most popular wireless cellular standard, but security is an issue. The most critical weakness in the GSM protocol is the use of one-way entity authentication, i.e., only the mobile station is authenticated by the network. This creates many security problems including vulnerability against m...
